Science Aided Chemistry

Profile

Department of Chemistry is recognized as Highly Rated Department under CE of UGC and has been awarded Star Status by DBT, Govt. of India. It is the largest department in the college. The department offers UG, PG (02), Ph.D. programs, UGC Sponsored Career Oriented add-on course in Industrial Chemistry (Certificate and Diploma), coordinating PG diploma in Bio-nano technology (Interdisciplinary Course) and many other certificate courses. It is actively involved in research activities and has well established Nanotechnology Research Lab with equipment like FTIR, BET, AFM, CPS etc. The thrust areas of research in the department are Synthesis of Carbon Nano Materials, H2 Storage, Super Capacitor, Drug delivery, Microwave Absorption, Electrochemical sensors, Nano composite and Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.

All the faculty members are actively involved in research activities. Out of 10 faculty members; 5 possess Ph.D. (Science) Degree in Chemistry. There are 4 recognized research guides for Ph.D. in Chemistry and 2 M.Sc. (by research) in Chemistry. 03 Major Research Projects sanctioned by UGC, BRNS and DST have been completed, 01 major research project sanctioned by DRDO is ongoing. 23 Minor Research Projects sanctioned by University of Mumbai have been completed. Similarly, 01 Industrial Research Project sanctioned by Century Rayon Pvt. Ltd. has been completed. 01 faculty member completed PDF in University of Genoa, Italy under the MoU for research programs signed with University of Genoa, Italy. The department provides consultancy to nearby Industries. The department has successfully organized many National level Seminars, Workshops and Conferences. Organising science exhibitions for School and College Students is a regular feature of the department.

Faculty members have published their research papers in various International and National peer reviewed journals and also attended / presented papers in various conferences / seminars / workshops. They participate actively in various Co-curricular, Extra-curricular & Extension Activities of the college / University
