NCC

A Brief Report of Ncc at B.K Birla College, Kalyan

NCC at B. K. Birla College is since the very inception of the college. The College has total sanctioned strength of 380 cadets out of which 100 cadets are of Army Boys (6 Mah. Bn. NCC), 80 cadets of Army Girls (1 Mah. (G) Bn), 150 Cadets of Naval Boys and Girls (1 Mah. Naval Unit NCC) and 50 cadets of Air Wing (1 Mah. Air Sqn NCC). Accordingly, there are 4 Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and 2 Care Taker Officers (CTOs) to take care of these units. It has maintained a high standard of character and discipline. To the best of our knowledge, college has maximum strength of cadets in the country and probably the only college in the Country with all the three wings of NCC.

Till date 8 Cadets have represented our country under Youth Exchange Programme of NCC, 66 Cadets have participated in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi, 29 Cadets have attended AINSC at Vishakhapatnam, 22 Cadets have attended TSC at New Delhi and 2 Cadets have attended Vayu Sainik Camp at Bengaluru. Many of them have bagged Medals and Trophies for NCC Directorate Maharashtra. 12 Ex-Cadets are leading NCC at different institutions as a ANOs with commissioned ranks. 13 Cadets have been awarded different kinds of scholarships (viz., Chief Minister/ Cadet Welfare/ Shyam Benegal Scholarships) for their extra ordinary contributions to NCC and maintaining their excellent academic performance.

17 Cadets have joined Armed forces as Commissioned Officers and many have joined as Non-Commissioned Officers. Our ex-Cadet Col Manish Deore is the Commanding officer of 27 Gujarat Bn. NCC Jamnagar, Cdr. Rahul Upadhyay is Commanding Officer of INS Baratang at Port Blair, Cdr. Chandan Gond is heading the logistics branch at Material Organization, Indian Navy, Mumbai.

Three of our ANOs, namely Maj Swapna Samel of 1. Mah. (G) Bn. NCC, Lt Cdr Harish Dubey of 1. Mah. Naval Unit and Capt. Suvarna Jadhav of 1. Mah. (G) Bn. NCC were awarded DG Commendation Card for the years 2008, 2010 and 2021 respectively. CSUO Bhagyashree Bhoir was also awarded DG Commendation Card for the year 2014-15. Lt Cdr Harish Dubey (Naval NCC ANO) of our college was felicitated by Shri Shripad Naik, RRM, Government of India, for his 'Extraordinary Contribution for training the cadets' on August 13, 2019.

The contribution of the Cadets and ANOs of the College for NCC Directorate Maharashtra is noteworthy. Capt Jacob John, (ANO Army Boys) was selected to lead Maharashtra Contingent at Republic Day Camp, New Delhi in the year 1983 and 1984. Lt Cdr Harish Dubey has led NCC Directorate Maharashtra as Contingent Commander for the All-India Nau Sainik Camp held at Vishakhapatnam for 6 times under whose leadership our Directorate was adjudged Best Directorate in Naval Activities for 3 times.

Recently, Cadet Capt Shantanu Jadhav and CJUO Avinash Chemburkar were selected to represent NCC Directorate Maharashtra at the Republic Day Camp held at New Delhi. Cadet Capt Shantanu Jadhav was part of the All India NCC contingent marching on ‘Kartavya Path’ on 26th January 2023, whereas CJUO Avinash Chemburkar was part of the Prime Minister Rally contingent. Cadet Capt Ved Ajarekar was selected one amongst the 10 cadets from the country to be a part of the Overseas Deployment team on board ship INS Nirikshak through which he visited five countries. Cadet PO Omkar Kawale was selected to represent NCC directorate Maharashtra at the All India Nau Sainik Camp (AINSC) held at Vishakhapatnam. Cadet Capt. Nitesh Pandey and Cadet Sanket Mohite participated in the RDC- 2024. Both were part of prestigious All India Guard of Honour contingent.

College has celebrated NCC day at College for Several times. Vice Admiral MP Awati, FO C-in-C, Western Naval Command, Maj Gen Harkirat Singh, GOC, Maharashtra and Gujarat Area, Rear Admiral SS Khanna, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Western Naval Command has been Chief Guest in these NCC day celebrations. Many DDGs of Maharashtra Directorate have visited the College at various Programmes at different times as Chief Guest. Maj Gen D. S. Gill, ADG, NCC Directorate was Chief Guest in a Felicitation Programme of NCC Cadets, and outstanding Sportsmen of the College held in April 2017.

College has been awarded Vice Chancellor’s Banner for best performance in the NCC Activities amongst the Colleges affiliated to University of Mumbai for the 12 times out of 20 times.

The college is one amongst the few colleges which offers 2 credits course as CC component under NEP-2020. Prior to this the college use to offer NCC studies as a Subject for the students of first- and second-year B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com. Our cadets are regularly participating in the various social and adventure activities viz. Blood Donation, Tree Plantation, Puls Polio Immunization, Awareness Rallies, Local Trekking etc.

College has been Venue for almost 10 NCC camps and B & C Certificate Examinations conducted by 1 Mah. Naval Unit NCC, 6 Mah. Bn. NCC, 1 Mah. (G) Bn NCC and 1 Mah. Air Sqn. NCC.

Dr. Naresh Chandra, Director (Education), BKBCK has been former Pro-Vice Chancellor of University of Mumbai for Two tenures. He has also been ANO of 1 Mah. Naval Unit NCC. He takes keen interest in the NCC activities and motivates the cadets. Our Management has always been a constant source of Support for NCC activities.
