Arts Aided English

Profile

The Department of English was established in 1972, in the same year the college was established, with an aim to cater to the knowledge of English language and literature for the students coming from different socio-economic strata. The department offers various subjects at the undergraduate level for Arts, Commerce and Science.

UGC- Sponsored Vocational Course on Functional English was introduced for Arts, Commerce and Science students in the year 1994. Its nomenclature was changed to ‘Career Oriented Add-On Course on Functional English’ in 2003. Now it is being run as a One-year Certificate Course for the inhouse students as well as of neighbouring colleges.

UGC- Sponsored ‘Centre for Foreign Languages’ was introduced in the year 2010 under College with Potential for Excellence scheme. Under this, 6-month Certificate Courses in French, German and Chinese languages are conducted. Functional English and Foreign language courses are open for all people of the society, irrespective of age or gender

Three students deputed to Tianjin University of Research, Tianjin, China, under Student Exchange Programme from 30th August 2013 to 15th January 2014.

They participated in various events and competitions held there, completed their advanced course in Mandarin (Chinese) with flying colours and won laurels for themselves and the college.
