Science Unaided Food Science & Nutraceuticals

Profile

M.Sc. Food Science and Nutraceuticals is a two-year post-graduate degree course which focuses on food development, food safety and various facets of the Nutraceutical Industry. The course focuses on the specialization of food and nutrition, Clinical dietetics, food biochemistry and composition, instrumentation, food production, Quality Control Management, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and concept of Food as Medicine. The Department of Food Science and Nutraceuticals was established in the year 2022-23 with the vision to make an impact in providing quality education, industrial-based trainings and innovation. The faculty members are competent and actively involved in various research activities, seminars, and workshops. The department also conducts value-added government certifications like FoSTaC, HACCP, and ISO 22000-2018. The course curriculum includes an internship program in various Food and Nutraceutical industries and research labs. The department also conducts various industrial visits which help the students to understand and upgrade themselves about the various facets of food industry. The curriculum has been developed to give an in-depth knowledge of Food and Nutraceutical Industry in order to provide the students with an understanding and practical knowledge of Human Health and Nutrition with advancements in Food technology.

· Completed Ph.D. (Botany) from University of Mumbai, under guidance of Dr. Naresh Chandra (Pro- Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai), Degree Awarded 12th January 2014 On Study of antidiabetic, antimicrobial and antioxidant property of plant parts of Butea monosperma (Lamk.) Taub.

· Published 10 research papers in various National and International journals

· Presented 14 research papers in different National and International seminar and conferences and won prizes in paper presentation

· Won 3rd prize for poster presentation entitled ’Climate change and Human health: Review’ in Interdisciplinary National Conference on ‘Climate Change and Youth: Time for Action organized by NSS, B. K. Birla College (Autonomous), Kalyan on 12th January, 2022.

· Guided a Research Project titled ‘Microgreens: New beginning towards nutrition’ at 18th Aavishkar: Inter-Collegiate/ Institute/Department Research Convention (Zonal Round) organized by the University of Mumbai at C.H.M College, Ulhasnagar on 7th December, 2023 for Thane East zone.

· Completed my Ph.D (Science) degree in Biotechnology in 2017 on the topic ‘Bioprospecting of few fruits and vegetable peel waste’ from University of Mumbai under the guidance of Dr. Meeta Bhot, Head, Department of Botany.

· Secured 1st Rank in M.Sc. part I and M.Sc. part II Biotechnology in Birla College.

· Completed one Minor Research Project sanctioned by University of Mumbai in 2019-20 on 'Evaluation of Anticancer activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra L.'

· Guided a Research Project titled ‘Evaluation of medicinal properties of Tinospora Cordifolia’ at 18th Aavishkar: Inter-Collegiate/ Institute/Department Research Convention (Zonal Round) organized by the University of Mumbai at C.H.M College, Ulhasnagar on 7th December, 2023 for Thane East zone.
