Science Aided Physics

Profile

The department of Physics was established in 1972 and currently offers B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. Programs. Department of Physics is “Highly Rated Department” under College of Excellence Scheme of UGC. Department has also received special grants from UGC,DBT and DST strengthening undergraduate teaching and for laboratory up gradation.

Late Shri C. G. Chavre, Ex- Vice Principal and then Head Department of Physics laid the foundation stone of the department. With rigorous efforts of late Shri. C. G. Chavre the department was able to establish a postgraduate laboratory in the year 1990. Dr. S. V. Salvi of The Institute Science Mumbai was appointed as Adjunct faculty and in the year 2004 the department was recognized for M.Sc. (by research) and Ph.D. (Physics) degrees by University of Mumbai. Materials Research laboratory (MRL) for research was then established in the College in the year 2004. In the year 2009,‘thin film deposition’ laboratory was added to the research wing of the department. Over the years all the five department faculty members have gained expertise in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials, and this has paved way for the establishment of additional laboratory for nanomaterial research in 2016. There are 03 research guides in the department and has produced 13 Ph.D.s till date. The faculties have completed several major/minor research projects and have published more than 100 research papers in various reputed national and international journals. Eight patents have been granted and others filed based on the research carried out in the department. All the faculty members have presented their research work abroad from time to time.
